The Nextcloud Android client compares ETags before and after upload to
verify its write landed. OxiCloud was returning the stable file UUID as
the ETag, which never changed on content updates, causing false
SYNC_CONFLICT errors on every upload.
Five fixes applied:
1. Thread blob_hash (SHA-256) through File entity, FileDto, all read/write
queries, and all WebDAV/PROPFIND responses as the ETag — changes on
every content update, no DB migration needed.
2. Honor X-OC-Mtime header: parse the client-supplied mtime and use it
for updated_at via COALESCE(to_timestamp($n), NOW()).
3. Disable phantom checksum capability (preferredUploadType/supportedTypes)
that the server never actually implemented, stopping retry loops.
4. Add nc:creation_time and nc:upload_time to PROPFIND responses.
5. Return oc-etag header in chunked upload MOVE (assemble) responses.

Schema (media_sort_date denormalization):
- Add media_sort_date column to storage.files with DEFAULT created_at
- Add trigger sync_media_sort_date: when file_metadata is upserted,
copies COALESCE(captured_at, created_at) into files.media_sort_date
- Add partial index idx_files_media_timeline on (user_id, media_sort_date DESC)
WHERE NOT is_trashed AND media type -- enables Index Scan + Limit (no Sort)
- copy_folder_tree now copies media_sort_date for copied files
- Remove dead idx_file_metadata_captured (no longer needed)
Query optimization (list_media_files):
- Rewrite to use fi.media_sort_date instead of COALESCE(fm.captured_at,...)
- Eliminates LEFT JOIN file_metadata -- one fewer table touch
- Plan: Limit to Index Scan O(LIMIT) instead of Sort O(N)
Video thumbnail pre-scaling (client + server):
- JS: pre-scale canvas to max 400px before toBlob -- 22x less RAM, 15x less BW
- Rust: fast-path in store_external_thumbnail -- if payload is already
WebP with dims within max_dim, store as-is (zero decode, zero encode)
- folder_db_repository: cast user_id to ::text in SELECT, ::uuid in INSERT/WHERE
- file_blob_write_repository: cast ::uuid in INSERT for user_id column
- file_blob_read_repository: bind Uuid natively instead of .to_string()
Fixes runtime errors:
- column user_id is of type uuid but expression is of type text
- operator does not exist: uuid = text
Add column-gap to list header/items, prevent rubber-band selection from
swallowing clicks on list headers and file items, preserve rubber-band
selection after mouseup, and extract type aliases to resolve clippy
type_complexity warnings.
Backend: new GET /api/photos endpoint with cursor-based pagination that
queries image/video files sorted by EXIF captured_at (falling back to
created_at), joining file_metadata for sort dates.
Frontend: dense photo grid grouped by day with lazy-loaded thumbnails,
IntersectionObserver infinite scroll, multi-select with batch
download/delete, and a full-screen lightbox with prev/next navigation,
EXIF metadata display, and download/favorite/delete toolbar.
Includes navigation wiring, CSS (with dark theme), and i18n translations
for all 9 locales.
Extract EXIF orientation, GPS coordinates, camera info, and timestamps
from uploaded images using kamadak-exif. Store metadata in a new
file_metadata PG table. Apply EXIF orientation to thumbnail generation
so images display correctly. Add /api/files/{id}/metadata endpoint.

Implement a complete Nextcloud client compatibility layer so that
Nextcloud desktop/mobile sync clients can connect to OxiCloud.
Key additions:
- Login Flow v2 (device auth) with OIDC bridge support
- WebDAV handler compatible with Nextcloud clients (PROPFIND, GET,
PUT, DELETE, MKCOL, MOVE, COPY, HEAD, PROPPATCH)
- OCS API endpoints (user info, capabilities, notifications stubs,
sharees, unified search)
- Basic Auth middleware with app password verification, account
lockout integration, and blake3-keyed auth cache
- App password management: create, list, revoke via both native
API (JWT-authenticated profile page) and Nextcloud OCS endpoints
- Nextcloud file ID mapping (oc:fileid) with persistent DB storage
- Chunked upload support (Nextcloud v2 chunking protocol)
- Trashbin WebDAV interface
- Avatar (SVG placeholder) and preview (redirect) handlers

1. Share password bypass (HIGH): enforce password check in get_shared_link_by_token,
verify_shared_link_password now returns ShareDto only on correct password.
2. WebDAV MOVE ownership (MEDIUM): add assert_owner on destination parent folder
for file moves in both PathResolver and legacy branches.
3. Path traversal defense-in-depth (LOW): add reject_path_traversal() to WebDAV,
CalDAV, and CardDAV handlers rejecting '..' segments at HTTP boundary.
4. Setup race condition (LOW): atomic INSERT ... ON CONFLICT DO NOTHING in
try_claim_initialization prevents duplicate admin creation.
- Add type aliases (FileRow, FolderRow, FolderRowPaginated, FolderRowOptUser) to reduce type complexity
- Simplify redundant closures in app_password_handler and webdav_handler
- Remove needless borrow in auth_handler
- Collapse nested if/let chains in login_lockout, webdav_lock, auth, rate_limit
- Box LockEntry in acquire() Err variant to fix large enum variant warning
- Rename DeviceCodeStatus::from_str to parse to avoid should_implement_trait lint
- Add #[allow(clippy::too_many_arguments)] and #[allow(clippy::result_unit_err)] where appropriate
- Convert integration_tests from cargo feature to custom cfg attribute
- Add check-cfg lint config in Cargo.toml for integration_tests cfg
Remove async-trait dependency and use native Rust async fn in traits.
Replace Arc<dyn Trait> with Arc<ConcreteType> throughout the codebase
to enable monomorphization and eliminate dynamic dispatch overhead.
Key changes:
- Remove write-behind cache (no implementation existed)
- Fix should_transcode static method call
- Use ContactStorageAdapter directly instead of dyn AddressBookUseCase
- Clean up unused trait imports across services and DI

Eliminates full table scans on all text search queries by enabling
pg_trgm extension and creating GIN indexes with gin_trgm_ops on
every column used in LIKE/ILIKE '%text%' patterns.
Changes:
- Add pg_trgm extension to schema.sql
- Add 10 GIN trigram indexes: contacts (full_name, first_name,
last_name, nickname, organization, email::text, phone::text),
calendar_events (summary), files (name), folders (name)
- Unify all LOWER(col) LIKE patterns to col ILIKE — eliminates
.to_lowercase() allocation in Rust and ensures index match
- Add minimum 3-char guard on search queries so PostgreSQL uses
the trigram index instead of falling back to sequential scan
- Add migration 004 with CONCURRENTLY for zero-downtime upgrades
Expected improvement: 100-500x faster text searches on large
datasets (e.g. 100K contacts: ~1.5s → ~3ms).

- WebDAV PUT and WOPI PutFile: replace sha2::Sha256 with blake3::Hasher (~5x faster hashing, compatible with dedup service)
- Fix TEXT↔UUID JOIN anti-pattern in favorites and recent_items repos (enables PK index usage)
- Add LIMIT 500 to get_favorites query to prevent unbounded memory allocation
- Remove unused lru crate from Cargo.toml (superseded by moka)
- Replace tokio features=["full"] with explicit feature list (removes signal, process, test-util)
- batch_operations.rs: replace join_all with buffer_unordered, Arc<str> for shared IDs, remove redundant clones and dead Semaphore
- folder_db_repository.rs: use COUNT(*) OVER() for single-query pagination; UPDATE RETURNING for rename/move (eliminates extra SELECTs)
- folder_service.rs: remove StorageTransaction wrapper from rename/move — direct repo call (4→2 and 5→3 queries)
- search_service.rs: replace sort_by(to_lowercase) with sort_by_cached_key (N vs 2·N·log₂N allocations)
- image_transcode_service.rs: dynamic rayon pool sizing via available_parallelism() instead of hardcoded 2 threads
- Remove dead transactions module (zero consumers after folder_service refactor)
resolve_blob_hash() used to invalidate the cache entry immediately
after the first read, forcing every subsequent request for the same
file into a PG round-trip (~2-4 ms each). This is especially
costly for video Range Requests (50+ seeks = 49 unnecessary queries).
Fix:
- Remove self.hash_cache.invalidate(file_id) from resolve_blob_hash
- Add self.hash_cache.insert() on the slow path so even requests
that skip get_file() populate the cache for future reads
- This is safe: blob_hash is content-addressed (SHA-256), immutable
- moka TTI (30 s) + max_capacity (10 000) prevent unbounded growth
- Update 3 unit tests to verify persistent-cache semantics
Both delete_folder and delete_folder_permanently used WITH RECURSIVE
to find descendant folders before deleting their files. This scans
the parent_id chain row-by-row (O(depth × N rows)).
Replace with:
DELETE FROM storage.files
WHERE folder_id IN (
SELECT id FROM storage.folders
WHERE lpath <@ (SELECT lpath FROM storage.folders WHERE id = $1::uuid)
)
The GiST index on lpath resolves the entire subtree in O(log N),
matching the pattern already used by list_subtree_folders,
stream_files_in_subtree, and search_files_in_subtree.
Replace list_files_in_subtree (fetch_all → Vec) with stream_files_in_subtree
that returns a Pin<Box<dyn Stream<Item = Result<File/FileDto>>>> backed by a
PostgreSQL cursor via sqlx::fetch().
Changes:
- FileReadPort::stream_files_in_subtree() returns streaming cursor (no default)
- FileRetrievalUseCase::stream_files_in_subtree() maps File→FileDto on the fly
- FileBlobReadRepository: async_stream::try_stream! + sqlx::fetch() cursor
- batch_operations: consume stream into HashMap incrementally
- zip_service: consume stream into HashMap incrementally
- All stubs/mocks updated (return empty stream)
Eliminates:
- Double allocation: Vec<(9-tuple)> + Vec<File> materialized simultaneously
- Unbounded RAM proportional to subtree size (was ~500 bytes × N files)
- Latency: callers blocked until last row fetched from PG
RAM is now O(folders) for the HashMap, not O(files).
Issue #4 (HIGH): save_file(Vec<u8>) and update_file_content(Vec<u8>)
accepted up to 10 MB of contiguous memory per request. While the main
upload paths already used streaming, the WebDAV compat methods
(create_file, update_file) and the empty-file handler still used the
buffered path, creating a .to_vec() copy.
Changes:
- FileWritePort trait: remove save_file(Vec<u8>) and
update_file_content(Vec<u8>) — only streaming variants remain
- FileUploadUseCase trait: remove upload_file(Vec<u8>)
- file_upload_service.rs: create_file() and update_file() now spool
&[u8] to NamedTempFile + Sha256::digest, then delegate to streaming
path (save_file_from_temp / update_file_streaming)
- file_handler.rs: empty file uploads use upload_file_streaming with
- FileBlobWriteRepository: remove save_file and update_file_content impls
- StubFileWritePort, StubFileUploadUseCase, MockFileRepository: remove
corresponding dead method impls
Impact: impossible to accidentally use a buffered upload path. All
content goes through streaming with ~256 KB peak RAM. -166 LOC.
Replace separate COUNT and SELECT queries in paginated search with a
single query using PostgreSQL COUNT(*) OVER() window function.
Affected methods:
- search_files_paginated: collapsed 4 branches × 2 queries into a
single dynamic query builder with 1 query per call
- search_files_in_subtree: merged COUNT + SELECT into one query
Additionally, search_files_paginated is now a dynamic query builder
(like search_files_in_subtree was) instead of 4 hardcoded branches,
reducing code from ~240 lines to ~80 lines.
Impact:
- DB round-trips per search: 2 → 1 (50% reduction)
- Latency: ~50% lower per paginated search
- Connection pool pressure: halved for search workloads
- Atomicity: count and data from same snapshot (no race)
Replace BFS traversal that issued 2 SQL queries per folder (list_files +
list_folders) with 2 total queries using PostgreSQL ltree <@ operator:
1. list_subtree_folders: single GiST-indexed scan for all folders
2. list_files_in_subtree: single GiST-indexed join for all files
Files are grouped by folder_id in a HashMap, then iterated in directory
order (folders pre-sorted by path from SQL).
Changes across 4 architecture layers:
- Domain: FolderRepository::list_subtree_folders (default impl)
- Application ports: FolderUseCase, FileRetrievalUseCase, FileReadPort
- Application services: FolderService, FileRetrievalService passthroughs
- Infrastructure: PG implementations + ZipService rewrite
Query count: O(N) → O(1). Latency for 100-folder tree: ~200 round-trips → 3.
- Add storage.shares table with indexes on token, (item_id, item_type), created_by
- Create SharePgRepository with indexed SQL queries and window-function pagination
- Rewire DI to inject SharePgRepository with PgPool instead of config
- Delete legacy share_fs_repository.rs (295 lines of JSON file I/O)
- Remove dead module declaration from repositories/mod.rs
Eliminates O(n) full-file JSON reads/writes, TOCTOU races, and crash
corruption risk. All share operations now use indexed PG queries.
- Add PG trigger trg_files_decrement_blob_ref (AFTER DELETE ON storage.files)
that auto-decrements storage.blobs.ref_count for every deleted file row.
Covers all paths: explicit DELETE, ON DELETE CASCADE, trash emptying.
- Remove manual remove_reference() call from delete_file() in
file_blob_write_repository — trigger is now the single source of truth.
- Fix double-decrement bug in FileManagementService::delete_with_cleanup:
was decrementing ref_count on trash (soft-delete) when the file row still
existed, causing premature blob GC and potential data corruption on restore.
- Remove dead fields (file_read, dedup_service) from FileManagementService
and simplify constructors — ref_count fully handled by PG trigger.
